Air Dried Oak Frames – Ockbrook, Derbyshire
Location: Ockbrook, Derbyshire
At Boam Joinery, we recently completed a bespoke joinery project in the picturesque village of Ockbrook, Derbyshire. This job allowed us to showcase a wide range of our craftsmanship, from traditional oak framing to factory-finished windows and a custom-built staircase.
Supplying & Installing Bespoke Air Dried Oak Frames
The centrepiece of this project was a series of large air dried oak frames, which we both supplied and fitted. These substantial structural elements brought character and strength to the building, whilst offering the timeless aesthetic that only air dried oak can deliver. The drying process results in a more stable timber, making it ideal for framing applications, especially in traditional and heritage-style builds.
These frames were carefully manufactured in our workshop using time-honoured techniques combined with modern precision tools. Once on-site, we fitted each frame with careful attention to alignment and load-bearing placement, resulting in a clean and secure installation that matched the architectural style of the property.
Handcrafted Idigbo Windows & Doors
As part of the wider joinery package, we also manufactured and installed a full set of Idigbo windows and doors. Idigbo is a durable, lightweight hardwood that is well suited for external joinery. It machines beautifully and accepts stains evenly, meaning the finish is both long-lasting and visually consistent.
Each window and door was tailored to the building’s dimensions and was factory finished in a high-quality stain by Remmers UK. This finish not only provided excellent protection against weathering but also gave the timber a clean, modern look that complemented the traditional oak structure. We took care to match the window style to the property’s aesthetic, resulting in a seamless blend of contemporary performance and classic appearance.
Custom Oak Staircase
Inside the property, we turned our attention to creating a bespoke wooden staircase using a combination of tulipwood and oak. Tulipwood’s smooth grain and ease of shaping made it ideal for the painted components, whilst oak was selected for the treads and handrail.
The staircase was designed to fit perfectly within the space available, balancing function with craftsmanship. We assembled and finished each component in our workshop before carefully installing the complete structure on site. The result was a robust and elegant feature that connects the home’s levels with character and continuity.
Factory Finishing For Long-Term Protection
All bespoke joinery elements that were to be exposed to external conditions were treated in our workshop before installation. We use Remmers UK stain products, which offer excellent penetration and weather resistance. By applying this treatment under controlled conditions in our workshop, we made sure each piece was fully protected prior to exposure to the elements, guaranteeing long-term durability with minimal maintenance requirements for the client.
