When a homeowner in the historic town of Warwick needed to restore their period property, they turned to Boam Joinery to supply and install bespoke timber joinery that would respect the building's heritage whilst providing modern performance.

The project involved the manufacture and fitting of a front entrance door, four sash windows, and two rear doors, all crafted from hardwood and finished to the highest standards.

The Challenge Of Historic Properties

Working on properties in historic towns like Warwick requires a special understanding of traditional joinery techniques and materials. The homeowner wanted replacement doors and windows that would maintain the character and aesthetic of their period home whilst offering improved thermal efficiency and security.

Bespoke Hardwood Joinery

Our team at Boam Joinery manufactured all seven pieces from premium hardwood, selected for its durability and suitability for external use. Hardwood offers superior longevity compared to softwood alternatives, making it the ideal choice for doors and windows that will face the British weather for decades to come.

Each piece was custom made in our Langley Mill workshop, with careful attention to the property's original design features. The four sash windows were crafted to replicate traditional sash window construction, featuring authentic detailing that honours the building's heritage.

Front Entrance Door

The front entrance door serves as the focal point of any property, particularly in a historic setting. Our joiners created a bespoke hardwood door that combined period styling with modern construction techniques, providing visual appeal and practical performance. The door was built to exact measurements, guaranteeing a perfect fit within the existing frame opening.

Sash Windows

The four sash windows required precision engineering to achieve smooth operation whilst maintaining period aesthetics. Traditional sash windows are renowned for their elegant appearance, and our team replicated this classic design using modern joinery methods that improve functionality and weather resistance.

Each window was manufactured to the specific dimensions required, accounting for any irregularities in the original openings that are common in period properties.

Rear Doors

The two rear doors provided access to the garden whilst maintaining security and thermal efficiency. Like the front entrance, these doors were built from hardwood and designed to complement the property's character.

Remmers Paint Finish

All pieces were finished using Remmers paint, a premium coating system specifically designed for timber joinery. Remmers products are renowned in the joinery industry for their exceptional durability, weather resistance, and long-lasting colour retention.

The paint system provides protection against UV damage, moisture penetration and general wear, meaning the doors and windows will maintain their appearance for years to come. The finish was applied in our in-house spray finishing facility, allowing us to achieve a flawless, professional coating that cannot be matched by on-site painting.

Professional Installation

Our installation team travelled to Warwick to fit all seven pieces, working carefully to protect the property and minimise disruption to the homeowners. Each door and window was hung, adjusted, and sealed to provide optimal performance.

The installation process included making any minor adjustments needed to achieve perfect operation, particularly important with sash windows where smooth movement is essential. All gaps were properly sealed to prevent draughts and water ingress.

Traditional Craftsmanship Meets Modern Performance

This Warwick project demonstrates how traditional joinery craftsmanship can be combined with modern materials and techniques to create products that are both beautiful and functional. The homeowners now have doors and windows that respect their property's history whilst offering the performance standards expected in contemporary homes.

The use of hardwood and Remmers paint provides longevity that will serve the property well into the future, making this investment in quality joinery a sound decision for any period property owner.
