At Boam Joinery, we recently completed a premium external door installation project in the picturesque village of Quarndon, Derbyshire.
This project showcased our expertise in working with Accoya wood, a high-performance timber that offers exceptional durability and weather resistance, making it the perfect choice for external joinery applications.
Our client in Quarndon required a new external door and frame that would provide outstanding security and weather protection whilst complementing the character of their property. After discussing their requirements, we recommended Accoya wood as the ideal material for this installation, thanks to its stability and resistance to the elements.
Accoya wood is specifically treated to reduce water absorption by as much as 80%, resulting in timber that does not swell and provides exceptional dimensional stability. This makes it more durable than most tropical hardwoods and ideal for external doors that face constant exposure to British weather conditions, UV rays and temperature fluctuations.
For this project, Accoya wood was the perfect choice, guaranteeing the door would maintain its integrity and appearance for decades to come, whilst requiring minimal maintenance compared to traditional hardwoods.
Our joinery team manufactured the bespoke door and frame in our fully equipped workshop in Langley Mill, Nottingham. Working with precision and care, we crafted every component to exact specifications, making sure the door would fit perfectly within the existing opening.
The manufacturing process involved:
To protect the Accoya door, we applied Remmers paint in the stunning Farrow & Ball Lichen shade. Remmers is a premium paint system specifically designed for external timber, offering excellent weather resistance, UV protection and long-lasting colour retention.
The Farrow & Ball Lichen colour was carefully selected by the client to complement their property's exterior. This sophisticated green-grey tone adds a touch of elegance whilst remaining in keeping with the natural surroundings of the Derbyshire countryside.
The combination of Accoya wood and Remmers paint creates a low-maintenance external door that will retain its beauty for years to come, requiring only occasional cleaning rather than frequent repainting or treatment.
Security was a key consideration for this project. We fitted the door with a Heritage multipoint locking system, which provides multiple locking points along the door's edge. This advanced locking mechanism offers better security than traditional single-point locks, giving the homeowner added peace of mind.
The Heritage system is specifically designed for high-performance external doors and operates smoothly whilst providing maximum security. When locked, the multipoint system engages at several points simultaneously, making forced entry extremely difficult.
Our joiners travelled to Quarndon to fit the door and frame with precision and care. The installation process involved:
The completed installation has transformed the entrance to our client's Quarndon home. The Accoya door, finished in Farrow & Ball Lichen with its Heritage multipoint locking system, provides:
